Fan Protest Escalates: Hajduk Split Ultras Set Away End on Fire
In the early stages of Croatia's top-flight league, HNL, a fan protest against high ticket prices for Hajduk Split escalated into an incident where parts of the away end at Andelko Herjavec Stadium were set alight. The event took place in Varaždin during a match between Varaždin and Hajduk Split.
The protest began due to dissatisfaction with rising ticket costs, which many supporters felt were unaffordable. As tensions mounted, some Hajduk Split fans decided to take matters into their own hands by setting parts of the away end on fire at Andelko Herjavec Stadium.
According to official reports, fortunately no one was injured in the incident. The extent of property damage remains unclear at this point, but it is certain that significant damage occurred. Despite the chaos, Varaždin managed to win the match 2–1 against Hajduk Split.
The incident has drawn attention away from the on-field action and onto the off-field drama. It highlights ongoing issues within Croatian football regarding fan access and affordability of tickets for supporters.
