HNK Hajduk Split earned a point away against HNK Rijeka, drawing 0-0 in the first Adriatic derby of the new HNL season. The match was played on Saturday, September 20, extending Hajduk's unbeaten run to five games.
The Split side was the more dangerous in the first half, while Rijeka failed to create a clear-cut chance. In the third minute, home player Ćubelić received a yellow card for a rough challenge. Hajduk attacker Šotiček fired a dangerous shot in the 17th minute, but goalkeeper Vekić managed to react and save. Dalisson also tried his luck from distance, but the opposing keeper easily gathered the ball.
After the match, Dalisson commented on his attempt. "Dalisson won't be able to afford this in the Conference League, especially against Ajax and Midtjylland," the player said. Hajduk was solid in defence, with goalkeeper Silić having little to do.
This result keeps Hajduk at the top of the HNL table with 16 points from seven matches played. The team has five wins, one draw, and one loss, winning their last five games in a row. The last meeting with Rijeka, in March, ended in a 3-2 defeat, making this point important for the squad's morale. Top scorer this season Marko Šego, who has netted four goals so far, could not find the net in Rijeka.
