HNK Hajduk Split has entered the race to sign young Spanish winger Danija Díaza from Real Sociedad ahead of the transfer deadline. According to a report by Index.hr Sport, initial contacts have been established between the clubs, and the Split-based side is awaiting the player's and the Basque club's reaction to a potential official offer.
The club currently sits 4th in the HNL with 10 points from five matches, just two points behind leaders Osijek. They have scored 11 goals, conceded five, and boast a +6 goal difference. Their next challenge is an away fixture against Rudes on September 6th, which you can follow on our fixtures page.
Who is Danija Díaza?
Danija Díaza is a 20-year-old attacking midfielder currently playing for Real Sociedad's B team. Last season, he was named the best player in his region while on loan at Burgos, where he scored a goal and provided an assist. For the Spanish U-19 national team, he has made 12 appearances and scored two goals. Transfermarkt values him at 2 million euros, and his contract with his parent club in San Sebastián runs until the summer of 2029.
Díaza attracted interest from Italian side Torino earlier this season but ultimately remained in Spain. For Real Sociedad B in the second division, he has shown his qualities, including a key assist in a match against Albacete. Despite not starting matches at the beginning of the campaign, he earned a place in the starting lineup for three consecutive games.
Why is Hajduk interested?
The Split club has been working on strengthening its squad with players who can contribute immediately. This summer's transfer window has already seen the arrivals of Alberto del Moral from Oviedo and Dalisson de Almeida from Córdoba. The search for a young, talented player with future resale potential aligns with this strategy. Díaza could bring speed and technical quality to the wings, adding to the offensive power of a team that has already shown it can score goals.
The current league position, fourth place and only two points off the top, shows Hajduk is competitive but has room for improvement. Additional quality in attack could be decisive in the title race, which you can track on our standings page.
What is the state of negotiations?
According to the Index.hr Sport report, Real Sociedad is considering selling Díaza, especially in the final days of the transfer window. As journalist Ángel García said: "Initial contacts have been established, but for now, we are waiting to see if Hajduk will send an official offer and how the player and the club from San Sebastián will react to it." Hajduk has therefore already initiated preliminary talks, and an official offer is expected to follow. The decision now lies with the player and the Basque club.
For Hajduk, this would be the third Spanish player signed this transfer window, after del Moral and de Almeida. This shows the club is turning to that market in search of value and talent. All squad details can be found on our team page.
When could the transfer happen?
With the transfer window closing soon, time is a limiting factor. Hajduk will likely try to speed up the process so the player can join training as soon as possible and begin his adaptation. If the transfer goes through, Díaza could be in Split within the coming days. His contract with Real Sociedad has three years remaining, meaning Hajduk would have to pay a fee to secure his services.
Hajduk returns to action on September 6th in an away match against Rudes, who currently sit 8th in the league table.
