HNK Hajduk Split has sold Canadian defender Niko Sigur to French Ligue 1 side Toulouse. The transfer was confirmed in the final stages of the summer window for a fixed fee of €3.1 million.
The Split-based club will also receive an additional €700,000 contingent on the player making a sufficient number of appearances for his new team. Hajduk has also secured a percentage of any future sale of Sigur, as reported by Index.hr Sport. This news comes as Hajduk sits 4th in the HNL table with 10 points from five matches.
How much did Hajduk earn from the transfer?
Niko Sigur has left Hajduk after four seasons at the club. The 22-year-old player arrived in Split in 2022 and made a total of 121 appearances for the Whites. During that time he scored five goals and provided five assists. His sale did not come as a surprise to club president Ivan Bilić.
"Niko Sigur is not a big surprise," Bilić said in an interview prior to the transfer confirmation. The fixed part of the deal is €3.1 million, with the total value potentially rising by another €700,000 based on appearance milestones. Hajduk will also retain a financial interest in case of a future sale of the player.
What was Sigur's career like in Split?
Sigur made his Hajduk debut four years ago. The player, who can operate at both right back and left back, quickly established himself in the starting lineup. His first season showed promise, and in the following campaigns he became a regular starter. For the Canadian national team he already has 22 caps and two goals.
His departure is part of a larger process at the club. Last summer Hajduk also sold Rokas Pukštas to English side Middlesbrough. The current squad, which you can view on our squad page, has scored 11 goals this season while conceding only five.
What is Hajduk's situation after this transfer?
The team currently occupies fourth place in the HNL with three wins, one draw, and one loss. They trail leaders Osijek by just two points. Their recent form shows a sequence of win, win, win, loss, and draw.
Sigur's departure leaves a gap in defence that the manager will need to fill. Bilić posted a farewell video on social media with the message "Hajduk said goodbye to Sigur with this video". The player is no longer a member of the Split club.
