HNK Hajduk Split has expressed disapproval of the intended construction of new buildings right next to the Poljud stadium. According to the club's position, such a development will permanently damage the distinctive vista that has been a recognizable feature of Hajduk's home ground for many years.
The club highlighted the irony of the entire situation on its official social networks. They pointed out that, while a working group has been assessing the condition of Poljud for an extended period, it has already lost one of its key characteristics. This post was published at a time when Hajduk has already been engaged for months in talks about building a new, modern stadium, while now also facing a change to the environment of the existing one.
This story emerges at a key point in the season for a team fighting at the top of the HNL. Hajduk currently sits second in the league, with the next challenge being a major home derby against the leaders Dinamo Zagreb. Despite winning four of their last five games, a defeat to Rijeka a week ago serves as a sign that on-pitch focus remains most important. You can review the full fixture schedule on our fixtures page and check the current league standings.
Despite a strong start to the campaign, the club must simultaneously fight a battle off the pitch to preserve the identity of its historic home.
